Scope & Content This collection contains a newspaper article from the Cedar Rapids, Gazette in 1968 on the Perkins owned restaurant called Marshalls. It also contains family photographs and a guest book for Fred Perkins Sr.'s funeral in 1975.
Biographical History Connie Hillsman was born in Cedar Rapids, IA. Connie worked in the Tyler Elementary School Library until beginning her job at Cargill Corn in 1978 where she remained until retiring in 2001. She is an avid geneologist and is very interested in the geneology of the African American families in Cedar Rapids, especially those that have lived in the area the longest. Connie has collected many objects, documents, and photographs relating to African American history in Cedar Rapids.
