Scope & Content This collection consists of two letters written by Capt. Henry Thomas on May 21, 1865 to his mother and one letter to his father in Washington on May 31, 1865. This collection contains the originals and a typed copy for easier reading. These letters were purchased by AAHMCCI and do mention African American soldiers in the Civil War.
Biographical History This item was purchased by former executive director, Joe McGill, from museum funds at a date prior to September, 2001. This item was found at an antique show in Cedar Rapids.
