A.M.E Hymnal Dark green covers. On front cover says "A.M.E. Hymnal" in faded gold lettering. 1.25 inches below that there is a small oval design with a cross in the center, the cross is superimposed over a music scale that contains four notes. The oval design was also done in gold. On side binder it again says "A.M.E. Hymnal" in same gold lettering. On inside front page, in blue ink it says " Edith Atkinson 828 8th St. S.E. Cedar Rapids, IA" Below that: EM-2-1310" Below that is written "Bethel A.M.E. Church 612 6th St. S.E. EM-3-1251" On inside front cover, written in pencil and red ink are names of various hymns and the numbers that correspond to them in the book. |
Biographical History |
Connie Hillsman was born in Cedar Rapids, IA. Connie worked in the Tyler Elementary School Library until beginning her job at Cargill Corn in 1978 where she remained until retiring in 2001. She is an avid genealogist and is very interested in the genealogy of the African American families in Cedar Rapids, especially those that have lived in the area the longest. Connie has collected many objects, documents, and photographs relating to African American history in Cedar Rapids. |
